Feeling the love

I'm going on vacation for a week and I really think my co workers are going to miss me. Just look at the sweet notes they've left me in last few weeks.

Don't worry besties, I'll be back soon!

Surprise! I'm still in love

Have I mentioned, ever, that my Lesco is killing it in the husband department? I mean that in an awesome Casanova kind of way and not the Dateline/48 Hours fashion.

He has always been so good to me. I probably have blogged this before but it's worth saying a thousand times, I didn't have to do dishes a single time when I was pregnant. You're probably thinking, "You are so freaken gross. Your husband was gone half of your pregnancy." And you are right. I am gross. In my defense all I really ate when Jared was out of town was cereal which just meant he had a stack of bowls and spoons in the sink when he came back.

More recently he has been full of make your wife feel guilty moves. It's been awesome. I'll take a little shame with a surprise package in the mail any time. Shame is 100% self inflicted over my lack of motivation to reciprocate.

We had a really hard time finding our rhythm after Phin was born. And by saying we had a hard time finding our rhythm I mean we bickered pretty much every day when we weren't walking around like zombies. And by bickered I think we both fantasized about doing mean things like grinding up laxatives and putting them in the snack you lovingly packed for him to take out of town. Out of town where he would be stuck in the middle of the desert all day long without a restroom. Yup, pretty sure we both had that thought.

I don't blame us, but it was so hard. We had always had such an ideal relationship.

People tell you that having a baby is hard stuff the second you share your happy baby news, but they also say things like "My baby slept 11 hours last night!" So you think that someday that might be you.

Then you have a baby that never sleeps, ever ever. One that has ear infections most of their first year. Maybe you have a husband that goes out of town and you go back to work full time and when you aren't at work you are home alone up all night trying to soothe a screaming baby. Maybe getting your baby to the best possible care requires you to spend two hours a day driving just to drop him off and pick him up. Did I mention your baby hates the car? That's two more hours a day of not stop screaming.

Maybe you had it worse and you think I'm a total sissy. I am. If that's you, I wish I could give you a hug.

Things seem to be back to normal in the Mel and Jared department. We are back to being in on the same happy wave length. I'm not trying to cause embarrassing, in the field bathroom incidents and he is back to making me feel like there are ten thousand girls in this world that deserve him more than me. Tough luck girlies, I'm not letting this guy go.

I'm even just starting to think I want to do this again. Maybe. Probably.

Happy Easter!

That's right. Screw candy, the fun's in making Dad run all over the backyard so great grandma doesn't have jelly beans hidden in her lawn until future archeologists excavate them in 2095. It was so fun watching Phinny hunt (read - go exactly where we pointed) for treasure. He pretty much nailed the egg hunt. Last Easter he was only 5 days old so this was a whole new world.

Of course the bunny stopped by our house. Bunny did me right. New face and body goodies for Mama (and 64 lbs of fibroids lovin candy), Flip flops and socks for Daddy (not intended for joint use) and a ball for baby Phin Phin. Don't know how this whole giant bunny business started on such a special, religious holiday but I won't complain.

Wondering why I'm always sitting in that same spot? Because I've only had this blog in cold weather and that's where the heater is.

Phin looks much cuter than me that early in the morning. We'll see if that still holds true in twenty six years Phin. (I'm guessing the answer will be yes. Stupid boy genes.)

There are several churches down the street from us that meet very early. Jared and I were glued to the window watching the parade of cute kids in their Easter duds head into church. It really was a perfect morning until there just wasn't enough time to get where we needed to go. We ended up hitting every red light in the world this morning and just missed something very special at church. We felt like idiots and I have some big apologies to make.

I love Easter. I love celebrating Christ. I'm grateful for my faith everyday but appreciate the special recognition his sacrifice receives this time of year. I'm eager to share that faith with my beautiful baby boy. Happy Easter!

Little boy after his Daddy's heart

Long before we had a babe of or own Jared would day dream about teaching his future children to use tools. Usually it was a pretty uninformed, aka dumb, dream that I would be forced to smash the second it came out of his mouth.

"I can't wait til I have a four or five year old and can show them how to use the table saw."

"You can't let a kindergartner use a table saw."

"Oh sure you can. I'll make sure they wear safety glasses."

"Excellent. That way they won't get any blood splatter in their eye when they saw their arm off."

"You're going to be one of those Mom's that doesn't let a kid be a kid."

"I never played with a table saw."

Then he usually mumbles something about my lack of soul or something and we hold hands and skip.

Either way, I'm ok with drills and apparently Phin thinks they are pretty cool too. He was all over helping daddy last night. Such a big, little boy.

House Inspiration and a little dancing. Half naked.

Every single time Anna Maria Horner posts a picture from her home I fall in love. Like this one I've been staring at for weeks now. I have a total crush on her talent, her Tennessee life, her ability to manage a business and raise all those cute kids. I just don’t have the cool artist/fabric designer gene in me but I have tried to paint my living room in bold colors. Really tried.

When we first moved into our house I was convinced that sensual jade paint would be the key to a brilliant home. It was so much work that even though it made the room feel like you were in the middle of ocean week at an elementary school minus the cellophane jellyfish I pretended to be happy with it.

Then I did laundry.

I discovered I had a pair of underwear in the exact color of the wall. I did what any sane human would. I put on the underwear to see if my butt would disappear when I stood against the wall. And then I called Jared to come see. Then I strutted my camouflage derriere all over that room. It came to a point where I could not wear them without at least one "you can't see my butt" dance around the living room.

The paint had to go but I still shake it every time I wear the underwear in memory of my sensual, sexy wall.

What I'm doing right this very second is

Listening to Phin cry like someone is sawing his leg off. Really he's just getting his diaper changed. Still not sure why he doesn't see that he's getting the good end of that exchange.

Jared and I ditched church today.
Shame, shame. I know.

It was one of those mornings where we just couldn't get it together by nine. When we finally got out the door we decided it would be far more fun to see if we could get my super congested head to explode so we drove up to Tahoe to get Phin to take a nap. Last time we did this Phin had a raging ear infection so he screamed all the way up and all the way down. (There is a major elevation change in the short drive up to the lake.)

It was in his die carseat, die phase so we had no idea he was in pain until his well baby visit the next week. I still feel bad about that Phin so I'm willing to downgrade the future cruise you owe me from Caribbean to Mexican. Mommy loves you.

Check out these super fly sunglasses Lesco picked up at the hottest gas station in Reno.

Liza had fun too.

And because there really isn't enough monster in this post, here he is last week at my uncle's birthday.

Why Jared will never tell Phin any stork nonsense

Jared is all about the facts yo. My sister in law is creating a new kid of her own right now. We just love to harass her two year old with questions about the baby. "Simon, is your Mommy having a girl baby or a boy baby? What will the babe's name be? How many babies are in your mommy's tummy?" It's usually right about then that Jared butts in and ruins all of our fun. "There are NO babies in your Mommy's tummy. There is a baby is her uterus."

Yeah, I guess Steve and Kari never taught Simon where the uterus is when they had their body part lessons last week. Goodbye Harvard.

Last night I was rocking Phinny while Jared read him his good night book. The book has all sorts of little animals with their Moms cuddling up for some shut eye. Phin and I were totally enjoying the book until Lesco up and skipped a page. Silly me, I thought this was just an oversight.

"You skipped a page."

"On purpose."

"I like that page. It has the bees on it. We have to teach Phin Phin what noise the bees make."

"No. Bees don’t have Mommies. It's wrong. I'm not going to teach him that."

"Bees have Mommies."

"Not that love them."

Fine. Phin will only get the bees page when I read the book. Because in my world, bees are loved by their mommas.

Return of the 'broids.

Remember how I told you I have to cut out sugar so that my fibroids don't make not pregnant Mel look like about to drop a baby out at any second Mel? Well I forgot to do that. On purpose. That was a bad choice.

I've been slowly weaning Phin and I'm at the point now where he only nurses every few days. One of the major benefits of breastfeeding is it keeps estrogen at bay. Just another AWESOME side effect of nursing.

Fibroids are soo in love with estrogen. More in love than I was with Jonathan Taylor Thomas when I was in my Tiger Beat days. More in love than I was with Leonardo Dicaprio after Romeo and Juliet came out. MORE in love than I was with the lead singer of every single band I saw in highschool and every hot professor I had in college. That's a lot of lovin.

So no breastfeeding means the 'broid is coming out to play. I've been forcing Jared to feel the fist size lump that has returned every night in bed. I already have some new fun souvenirs on my bod from pregnancy and giant protruding (benign) tumor in the gut is not good for the confidence. I just convinced myself that I will not be scared to have my stretch marks out at the beach this summer but I will never get to that point with this.

Why don't I take it out? Can't. Doctor won't do it until I'm done having children because it might make me infertile. Don't worry, I got a second opinion. It and all of its smaller fibroid friends would probably just grow back anyway because I am so young. So very, very young. (Did you hear that Jared? YOUNG!)

So I'm trying again.

I've been studying up on all sorts of supplements that might help. Despite the fact that the website screams SCAM SCAM SCAM YOU FREAKING IDIOT, I'm really close to being desperate enough to buy http://www.fibroidsmiracle.com/Fibroids-Miracle.html?hop=ck188.

It seems it is close to impossible to find a real review of the Fibroids Miracle book. One dude/dudette that reviewed it also submitted a review for erectile dysfunction cream. Not cool Pat. Not cool. Stay tuned for organic recipes filled with yummy yummy things. Like thistle supplements and beans. Lots and lots of beans.

We're sick and drugged and not so happy

I'm sick. Phin's sick and I'm pretty sure Lesco is on the verge. Really, he's not allowed. There would be no one to take care of us. On top of that, I'm in the midst of weaning Phin and while he doesn't really care, my body is pissed. Apparently it liked looking like a lopsided, retired pornstar with a gut. Suck it up body, I'm sick of getting checked out by the homeless dude at 7-11.

Sick Phin blows snot bubbles and I think it's cute. That's right. My child's snot is not gross. Bam.

So while I wish I felt up to taking Phin to the park or cleaning my bathroom, I'm pretty content buried under quilts on the couch with Lesco plays with the monster. Right now Phin is using the dog leash to tie up Daddy. Been there, done that kid. It just means he's not available to make us lunch and I could really go for some mac and cheese.

Because my child would happily stay outside every second of his life we took him to the park on his actual birthday. Still can't believe I have a one year old. And a husband. And a dog and a cat. Old. Need proof? I shook my fist a jaywalker yesterday and called him a dumb kid. I used to be a dumb kid! Now I'm a dumb Mom.

Sorry, can't focus. Too much Nyquil PM. (Yay for finally being able to take good drugs again!!) Park was fun.
